Terms of service
The terms for using KinCrypt, a free, independent contact manager that connects to your Proton account.
Last updated:
Draft for publication. The release-effective date and remaining operator disclosures must be confirmed before these terms are published as final.
1. Operator and scope
KinCrypt is provided by Christoph Bühler, Switzerland (“the operator”, “I”, or “me”). You can contact me at kincrypt-support@cbue.ch.
These terms describe the conditions for using KinCrypt and its informational website. KinCrypt is free to use; it does not charge a purchase price or subscription fee. Your internet provider or separate services you use may charge their own fees.
KinCrypt is an independent application, not a Proton product. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Proton AG. How information is handled is explained in the privacy statement.
2. Account and eligibility
You need a Proton account with access to the relevant contact services to authenticate and synchronize. You must be entitled to use that account and have the legal capacity to use the app under these terms, or the necessary permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Keep your account and device secure. Do not share passwords or session tokens with the operator. KinCrypt cannot bypass Proton’s authentication, verification, account restrictions, or recovery procedures.
Your relationship with Proton is governed separately by Proton’s terms and privacy policy. These terms do not replace them or give the operator control over your Proton account.
3. Permission to use and intellectual property
The operator grants you a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to install and use KinCrypt for its intended contact-management functions, subject to these terms and applicable law.
Rights in KinCrypt’s original software, branding, and website content remain with their respective rights holders. This permission does not transfer ownership of those materials or grant permission to represent yourself as KinCrypt or Proton.
Third-party and open-source components remain subject to their own licenses and notices. Those licenses, and rights that applicable law gives you, are not restricted by these terms. Any separately supplied software license governs the material it covers.
4. Your contacts and responsible use
You retain your rights in the contact data you enter or access. KinCrypt does not claim ownership of your address book. You are responsible for ensuring that you may lawfully store, use, and synchronize the information, including information about other people.
Use the app lawfully. Do not use it to access someone else’s account without permission, infringe others’ rights, introduce malicious code, or deliberately interfere with services. This does not restrict activity protected by applicable law.
KinCrypt processes contact information on your device and exchanges it directly with Proton to carry out the app’s functions. The operator does not receive your address book through a KinCrypt backend.
5. Synchronization and copies of your data
KinCrypt stores contacts locally and synchronizes with Proton in both directions. Edits and deletions can affect the contacts in your Proton account and, through that account, other connected applications.
A local save does not always mean synchronization has completed. Connectivity, authentication, conflicting changes, or service errors can delay or prevent synchronization. Review the app’s status before relying on a change being available elsewhere.
Keep appropriate independent backups of important contacts and review changes before deleting data. KinCrypt is a contact manager, not a separate backup service. These precautions do not limit rights or remedies you have under applicable law.
6. Availability, dependencies, and updates
KinCrypt depends on your device, network access, and Proton’s services and interfaces. Changes or interruptions to those dependencies may affect its operation. The operator cannot promise uninterrupted availability or compatibility with every environment.
The app may receive fixes and updates, and features may change as it develops. Install updates needed for security and compatibility. No particular support response time or additional feature is promised.
If development or distribution ends, or a change materially reduces functionality, the operator will provide reasonable advance notice where practicable through the available release or website channels. Changes and discontinuation remain subject to applicable obligations, including mandatory consumer rights.
7. Ending use
You may stop using KinCrypt at any time. Logging out removes locally stored authentication secrets when the operation succeeds and attempts to revoke the current Proton session. Remote revocation may fail if Proton cannot be reached; sessions can also be managed through Proton.
Logging out is not a contact-database erasure function and does not delete your Proton account. Uninstalling the app does not delete contacts held by Proton. See the retention and deletion information before removing data.
8. Warranties, liability, and mandatory rights
KinCrypt is provided without a voluntary guarantee that it will be error-free, continuously available, or suitable for every purpose. This statement does not exclude statutory warranties, conformity requirements, or remedies that apply to you.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the operator’s liability for loss caused by ordinary negligence is excluded. This exclusion does not apply to intentional misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. It does not remove mandatory consumer or data-protection rights.
Where an exclusion in these terms is not permitted, the applicable statutory standard governs. Nothing in these terms requires you to waive a remedy that the law makes available to you.
9. Applicable law and disputes
Swiss law governs these terms. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another country, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protections that apply under the law of your habitual residence.
Courts with jurisdiction under applicable law remain available to you, including any right to bring a consumer claim in your country of residence. These terms do not impose exclusive Swiss jurisdiction or mandatory arbitration.
If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law, and the applicable legal rules govern the affected matter.
10. Changes, effective date, and contact
This version is a draft dated 18 September 2026; its release-effective date has not yet been set. A final version will identify when it takes effect.
Future revisions will state their date and explain material changes. Where required, advance notice or agreement will be obtained before changes take effect. Merely publishing a revised page does not retroactively change your rights.
